Graphic Design Style Of The Victorian Era - 1681 Words

In the past years, their have been dramatic changes that have influenced the development of graphic design since the 19th century. Going back to 1900, after the Industrial Revolution in the Victorian Era there was a social and economic change as the world developed. There was the first printed book and first movable type, there were new printing press, first san-serifs, and first brand loyalty. However, with their ability to easily recreate designs, they replaced craft mans with cheaper and faster production, and art and craft were sacrificed for speed and quality; designs became tasteless. The design style of the Victoria Era was too busy, detailed and separated type and image. They incorporated too many ornaments and patterns from different cultures. Which lead to another significant design style that started in Britain— the Arts and Crafts movement. It was a response against the mass production of the Victorian Era, as the designers began to honor all types of designs and a rt and craft were unified through the use of geometric forms and layout that appreciated delicate craft work. This movement increased appreciation of fine printing. A new movement emerged in Paris in 1880 known as Art Nouveau. The Golden Age of graphic design was during the Art Nouveau Era as designers gained freedom of expression and embodied organic curving forms that honor nature opposite to the cold and mechanical designs.
